Lookmovie Streaming Site Shut Down by ACE & MPA – What Happened?

The popular Lookmovie streaming domain has been shut down by ACE and the MPA.

Lookmovie was one of the most popular streaming sites with millions of visitors every month.

Just a week ago we saw ACE shut down Afdah, and now it appears Lookmovie was also high on their target list.

A few months ago, Lookmovie along with a few other streaming sites had their “.io” domains suspended by ACE/MPA.

As we’ve seen in the past, Lookmovie quickly responded to this suspension by jumping to new domains.

It was reported that Lookmovie moved to a “.to” domain and was responsible for the infringement of copyrighted works.

The image below from the official subpoena document submitted by ACE explains the situation:

What’s interesting is this statement from ACE’s Executive Vice President Jan van Voorn:

“As is stated in the attached subpoena, you are required to disclose to the Motion Picture Association, Inc. (on behalf of the ACE Members) information sufficient to identify the infringers. This would include the individuals’ names, physical addresses, IP addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, payment information, account updates and account history.”

One would assume ACE is referring to the operators behind Lookmovie as the “infringers,” but we are not 100 percent certain.

You can refer to the official subpoena below for more information.

What’s also interesting about this story, is that the “lookmovie2.to” domain is still online and running.

It only seems this constant game of “whack a mole” with streaming website shutdowns will continue.

And after doing some further research, we also found several other “mirrors” of Lookmovie.

This isn’t the first time copyright authorities have released lists of piracy websites and services on their radar.

Will Users of Lookmovie be Contacted?

It’s uncertain what’s happening behind the scenes with this latest targeting of the Lookmovie streaming site.

We’ve seen pirate website operators in the past hand over user data, streaming history, and identifying IP addresses when investigated by copyright authorities. They’re also known to sell this sought-after information to other third parties.

It’s extremely important to only stream content not protected by copyright and protect yourself with a VPN.
